"脚本は16人の脚本家チームによってその制作がなされており、毎年12月の始めになると、彼らによってエピソードの構想が練られている^[22]。まず筆頭脚本家が草案を出し、それを各セッションごとにジョークを加えるかまたは削除し、必要な場面などの挿入を行い、そして修正するごとにそれを声優たちに再読してもらい最終的な脚本を作り上げる^[23]。この各セッションのリーダーはジョージ・メイヤー(En)が務めており、シーズン1からこの役割を担当している。脚本家のひとりのジョン・ヴィッティ(En)によると、メイヤーの案がエンドクレジットで他の脚本家名が出ることになった場合であっても、彼の出した案が最良であることが多いと述べている^[23]。各エピソードの制作期間は6か月を擁し、その関係上最新の時事的なことについては触れないことになっている^[24]。だが、オリンピックやスーパーボウルなどの定期的に行われる事柄についてはエピソード内でそれに触れることがある。"
