"あと、中西準子『食のリスク学』（日本評 論社）は是非お読みあれ。そう、タイトル通りの本。いまなお続く、ヒステリックな狂牛病問題と、全頭検査がどうしたとかいう無意味な話のあほさ加減、中国 製ぎょうざ問題、まったく意味がないどころかかえって有害な有機食品だのをめぐる変な信仰。それをリスク学の権威ともいうべき中西準子が次々に切って捨て る……わけではなく、ちゃんと評価して、どこまでが意味のある話なのかをていねいに教えてくれる、とてもよい本。

中西準子のすばらしいところは、常にフェアなこと。彼女は、トリハロメタンの問題やダイオキシン問題や合成洗剤問題で、最初は「進歩的」な市民活動家にか つがれることが多い。でも、状況はやがてかわるし、政府だって企業だってちゃんと対応してくる。すると彼女は、「事態は改善されたからもう騒ぐべきではな い」ときっぱり言える人だ。そうすると、市民活動家たちは手の平をかえしたように彼女を糾弾しはじめる。"
